Sport Fishing La Ventana — La Paz

Sport Fishing La Ventana — La Paz

Six hours, open ocean, and you.

Baja California Sur is one of the world's top sport fishing destinations. La Ventana is where we fish.

The Gulf of California has one of the greatest diversities of marine species on the planet. Dorado, striped marlin, black marlin, blue marlin, wahoo, amberjack, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, snapper, cabrilla. Depending on the month, the captain knows exactly where they are and how to get to them.

La Ventana is less than an hour from La Paz. A calm bay with direct access to open water, where local fishermen have spent generations learning every current, every underwater seamount, and every shift in water temperature. That's not something you learn from a manual. It's inherited.

The species — what you can expect to catch

The Gulf of California has fishing year-round. What changes is which species takes the lead by season.

SpeciesPeak season
Dorado (Mahi-mahi)May–November
Striped marlinApril–November
Blue / black marlinJuly–October
WahooYear-round
Yellowfin tunaJuly–November
AmberjackYear-round
Snapper / CabrillaYear-round
SailfishJuly–October

The private charter

The tour is exclusive — no mixed groups with strangers. The boat, the captain, and the day are yours alone.

Departure is from La Ventana at sunrise. The captain decides the route based on the day's conditions — water temperature, currents, reports from other local fishermen. There's no fixed itinerary, because the ocean doesn't have one either. That's exactly the point.

Duration: 6 hours in open water
Methods: Trolling · spinning · jigging · live bait

And if the ocean was generous

La Ventana's local kitchens turn your catch into the best meal of your trip. Ceviche, tacos, garlic butter or grilled — prepared the same day with whatever you brought back on board. It's the perfect way to close out a fishing charter. And it's exactly what you won't find at any resort.

Catch & Release

If you prefer catch-and-release — a practice more and more sport fishermen are choosing to help preserve the Gulf's species — the captain is well versed in the right techniques to minimize stress on the fish and release it in the best possible condition. Responsible fishing is part of how we want this to keep existing.
