## Ride down with the Gulf of California as your backdrop. #### The dunes of El Mogote have something no other destination in Mexico has: they sing. --- When the wind blows at the right angle, El Mogote's dunes produce a low, continuous sound that seems to come from the sand itself. Locals have always known it. Travelers who discover it never forget it. Just 20 minutes from downtown La Paz, the landscape changes completely. Desert, cardón cacti, soft sand, and panoramic views of the Gulf of California and La Paz Bay. Sandboarding here isn't just the sport — it's the setting. --- ### What you'll experience **The drive.** Departure from La Paz by 4x4 along the trans-peninsular highway heading north. The road is already part of the experience — cacti in impossible shapes, desert wildlife, and views that shift with every curve. About 30 minutes each way. **The briefing.** Once you arrive, your guide walks you through the basic technique — a mix of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding adapted to sand. No prior experience needed. The first runs are on gentler slopes; as your technique improves, the guide takes the group to the taller dunes. **The dunes.** Up to 100 feet tall. Fine, soft sand — if you fall, it doesn't hurt. The view from the top is 360°: the Baja desert on one side, the Gulf of California on the other. At sunset, the light turns this place into something hard to photograph and easy to remember. **The snacks.** When you're done, water, fruit and a cold beer out on the dunes. The best possible way to end it. --- ### Why El Mogote is unique El Mogote is a peninsula that shields La Paz Bay from the open Gulf of California. The dunes formed from thousands of years of ocean wind and are still dynamic today — constantly shifting shape and position. No two seasons look exactly the same. It's also a **permanent conservation area** — no construction, no infrastructure. Just sand, cacti, and sea. --- ### What's included ✓ Pick-up at the La Paz malecón or your hotel ✓ 4x4 transportation to El Mogote ✓ Certified bilingual guide ✓ Full sandboarding gear ✓ Helmet and safety equipment ✓ Water, fruit and beer at the end ✓ Photo/video recap of the ride **Not included:** personal travel insurance **Duration:** 3 to 4 hours **Schedule:** morning or afternoon — we recommend the afternoon slot for the sunset **Max group size:** 25 people **Free cancellation** up to 24 hours before. --- ### What you need to know **No experience required.** Your guide teaches the technique from scratch.
